    Notes:

    Margaret Durbin Harper Sibley was married to Hiram Watson Sibley, making her Emily Sibley Watson's sister-in-law. She was the only child of Fletcher Harper, Jr., and Margaret Cook Durbin Harper. Her grandfather, father, uncles, and cousins comprised the Harper Brothers publishers. The mother of six children, of whom only three would live to adulthood, Margaret was frequently ill during the early years of the marriage, but went on to become a leader in the field of health care and hospitals in Rochester. She was president of Genesee Hospital for 25 years, and first president of the Nurses Training School board. Mrs. Sibley built the first children's ward and the first nurses home.

    Margaret married Hiram Watson Sibley 1873. Hiram (son of Hiram Sibley and Elizabeth Maria Tinker) was born 2 Mar 1845; died 28 Jun 1932; was buried , Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, New York. [Group Sheet]

    Daughter of Emily Sibley Watson's brother Hiram Watson Sibley and his wife Margaret Durbin Harper Sibley, Ruth Sibley was close in age to her cousin James G. Averell. Her husband, John Allyne Gade, was architect of the Memorial Art Gallery. Mrs. Gade was one of the early donors of art to the Gallery's collection. In 1912, Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundson named a peak in the Queen Maud range on the South Pole in her honor, as a thank you for their support of his expedition.

    Notes:

    "Durbin" Sibley was the 4th child of Hiram Watson Sibley and Margaret Durbin Harper Sibley. He was the 3rd of their six children to die young. In a 1/23/93 letter to her daughter, Elizabeth Sibley describes her newborn granddaughter, Margaret Urling Sibley, in terms of her likeness to her deceased brother.

    Emily Sibley Watson’s nephew, and by the 1890s, sole surviving son of Hiram Watson Sibley and Margaret Durbin Harper Sibley. Known as Harper Sibley, he was a businessman, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and active in mission and relief work worldwide.
