James Hattrick Lee (1844-1903)

Acquaintances of Emily Sibley Watson:

Episcopalian priest, theologian and educator, Lee ran the Fort Hill School in Canandaigua 1884-86, and then in Rochester 1887-1892, where J.G. Averell attended it.  He is said to have left the church after reading the writings of Charles Darwin. He left Rochester to go to the Milton Academy to teach Greek, Latin and physics from 1892-1902. He died of typhoid while on sabbatical in Rome and is buried in the Non-Catholic Cemetery in Rome.

His son, William Frazier Lee, or "Billy," was sent to Harvard through the generosity of Emily Sibley Watson.
