On May 28th, 1891, the last day of Camping in Morocco, Emily & James Sibley Watson travelled to Ceuta, a Spanish outpost on the North African Coast.  From there they crossed the Mediterranean and travelled into Spain.  Surviving letters and photographs captioned with dates from June 1st – June 6th show they travelled to Gibraltar, Granada, and from Granada to Jaen and Mengibar, Spain, and then to Madrid.

Emily’s brother Hiram & his family, Emily’s mother, Elizabeth Sibley, and Emily's son by her first marriage, James G. Averell (J.G.), were still travelling in Europe at this time. Emily & James Sibley Watson met up with the family later in Paris, arriving home with J.G. in August while the rest of the family remained in Europe for another month.
