Tennis
J.G. played tennis with the Rochester Tennis Club, competing at age 14. The Club, which was founded in 1886, had courts at the southwest corner of Prince and Alexander, just down the street from J.G.’s home.
At St. Paul's School, J.G. played rackets (a predecessor of squash) and tennis, continuing to play tennis at Harvard. School friends Leonard Everett Ware and William Mansfield Scudder, who were Harvard doubles champions, visited J.G. and played in a Rochester Tennis Club tournament in July 1895.
