1885 letters

In August-September 1885, James Sibley Watson takes what may be his first trip to Yellowstone, which opened to the public just two years earlier.  His letters to Emily Averell describe touring the park on horseback, with a guide, "Yank," who will guide several trips in later years.

October 1885 finds Watson hunting wildfowl from a lighthouse near Detroit.
