St. Paul's School years

J.G. Averell studied at St. Paul's School from 1893-1895. A college preparatory boarding school, St. Paul's School was affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Many prominent Rochesterians were alumni of the school, including Edward Harris, Jr., John Craig Powers, Edward Rufus Sibley, and Frank Hawley Ward. There was a cohort of "Rochester boys" attending with J.G., including Brainerd Hunt Whitbeck, an East Avenue neighbor, and a relative on his father's side of the family, William Holt Averell, Jr.
