Harvard Years
J.G. Averell studied at Harvard College from 1895-1899, followed by an extra course of study in Architecture from 1900-1902. In the course of his Harvard years, he became a member of several clubs and fraternities, and an avid follower of and participant in collegiate sports. J.G. also partook of Boston concert life.
In the first remaining letter from J.G.'s Harvard years, he recounts finding a used bookstore, and purchasing a 6-volume set of the works of Alexander Pope. This set is now in the collection of the Memorial Art Gallery's Charlotte Whitney Allen Library.
