J.G. describes playing cricket and extolls the prowess of a Cornell bicycle race competitor. In his closing greeting, he asks his mother to give his love to his step-father, his horse, the new yacht Algonquin, "and the rest of our friends."

J.G. also refers to a controversy between William Austin Wadsworth and Samuel S. Howland within the Genesee Valley Hunt community.
