Too good to be true
Elizabeth Sibley's letter of October 16, 1890 acknowledges letters from October 8th and 10th, presumably including news of George Folger Canfield's advice to Emily to acquire California residency.
Elizabeth writes: "I was so much afraid the good news was too good to be true that I scarcely dared hope but dear child, let us be patient as possible, the trial is greater for you but think how lost I am without you, it really seems to me that nearly all of the Sun shine had gone out of my life, I know when you do return it will be glorious, to have you free and yourself once more, try to bear up, and forget home if necessary for the time being.
