A Crew for Rochester's Yacht
On March 15, 1899, the Democrat and Chronicle speculated about the skipper and crew members for the Rochester Yacht Club's entry fin the Chicago Canada's Cup trials. The paper named three potential crew members and then added: "The work in the race will be of the most arduous and severe nature, and it is felt that no suspicion of lack of staying powers must be attached to the men selected. There will be none in regard to these three [mentiioned above], and if, as one man thought, J.G. Averell is selected as the fourth, it will be a quartette not only entirely beyond criticism as to strength and grit, but also as to practical sailing ability."
